ENVIRONMENT IMPACT ASSESSMENT AND SOLUTIONS

Mining should be conducted in such a manner that the environment is not damaged to the extent that large areas of land are permanently removed from future beneficial use. Hence it is important that an assessment be done of the potential impacts of a mining operation and that development proceed in such a manner as to keep environmental degradation as low as reasonably achievable with technical, economic, and social factors being taken into consideration.

At INAREC, we don’t consider taking care of the environment a part of our job, but it is our way of life. Furthermore, we believe that every ecosystem will talk to us if we open our eyes and listen to it. For this reason we have dedicated a team competent and experienced scientists headed by Ms. Agnes Kabran, M. A. sc., our senior ecosystem and environment scientist. Ms. Kabran is an expert in Biodiversity and Sustainable Management of Ecosystems with several years of site experience. Until recently she has worked in ecosystem monitoring and restoration Haut-Sassandra Classified Forest (HSCF), Ivory Coast where human activities has significantly impacted the ecosystem.

The structure of work for Ms Kabran and her team anytime “mother nature” calls consist of the following framework:

  • Operational environments are carefully monitored on a continuous basis using the community and available advanced technology
    • Data are then collected and mapped
    • Factors are quantified using mathematical modeling and simulation techniques and integrated in mining operations as they are correlated
    • Our team then assesses impacts and proposes remediation solutions as well identifying potential future risks
    • Our team of  experts in ecosystem management proposes solutions for land reclamation by implementing a reactive risk management process
